Car problem????????????????

Okay here's the problem a few weeks ago my service engine light came on and one day i started my car and it was shaking, like idling roughly, I put some fuel injector cleaner in twice and it's helped a little, still kind of idling roughly but much better, when I try and accelerate it feels a little blocked, it will eventually accelerate but there feels like there is some kind of resistance, especially when going up a hill. I was thinking maybe its the fuel filter, I'm going tues to get the codes for whats wrong, my stepfather thinks that a spark plug may be misfiring but would that make the acceleration feel different. I don't know a lot about cars so I was wondering if anyone else has had this kind of problem or if anyone can give me an idea about what could be going on??
