I have a 99 Mazda Protege, and when I first leave to go to work, or return home from work, it jerks for a minute or two. If I press the gas firmly, then either it doesn't jerk, or the jerking becomes unnoticeable. Also, I don't think it is purely about the speed of the vehicle, because, if I stop at a stop sign, it does not jerk when I pull out.
I do not know if it jerks in any other gear, after first, because it only does it when the car has been sitting for at least a few hours, and because I cannot really build up any speed between the constant stoplights near work, and the residential area I live in. Whatever the case may be, it corrects itself within about a minute's time.
The car has approximately 180,000 miles, but I'm hoping this is nothing serious.
