Car Insurance costs: How can I tell what my car insurance will be without giving...

...away details...? I have my provisional, and as soon as I pass I intend on getting a car.
I am in the UK, and was wondering if there was a way to see how much car insurance costs.
I was looking to see if I could roughly get a car insurance quote without already having a car etc, since I would obviously have to see the insurance price before buying the car.
Any contributions to solving this question will be greatly appreciated!
I cannot find the answer anywhere!

Virtually every car insurance provider online will allow you to get a quote for a car that you don't own. You just select the make and model of the car you're thinking of buying. Swiftcover.com is a good one because they have a really quick form with competitive prices, so they're useful for just getting an idea. Avoid the price comparision sites, as they tend to phone you up offering you deals if you don't buy after browsing.

Unfortunately there's no way to get a quote without putting all your details in, because the insurance cost will depend on many factors such as your age, job, postcode, whether your house has a drive/garage, etc. But once you've got a few quotes you should be able to make a guess of each car by looking at the Insurance Group and comparing it to cars you've already got quotes for.
