so i was driving my car downtown parked it and ran into a store came back it wouldnt start. My mechanic friend came told me my fuel pump wasnt kicking on after banging it witha hammer got it working again.... So we fixed that. Then when i was drivng home the same dayi turned a corner and the whole car stopped and locked up like it was out of gas. so i got it home we put more gas in it. but he car wouldnt crank back up it was turning over but nothing. So we thought maybe all the cranking killed the batttery so i went and got a new one. once i put it in the car wouldnt do anything anymore.all the lights come on bright and strong but nothing else happens. and i think there a faint click when i turn the key

Don't know what car you have but if your "mechanic" friend came and told you it was the fuel pump and he banged on it with a hammer, that's a pretty good trick because most fuel pumps nowadays are INSIDE the gas tank.

Instead of letting your "mechanic" friend look at it and bang on things with a hammer, have a professional, real mechanic look at it, or take the bus.

turning over and cranking is the same thing. your saying it will turn over but won,t fire up? if the pump is,nt kicking on then it could be the pump relay. it still will turn over even if the pump was bad. if your saying it won,t even turn over then it could be the starter or battery terminals are dirty.
