car for a 16 year old girl?

Im looking for a first car since i will have my license soon. Im on a pretty tight budget because i want to pay for most of the car myself..(trying to be responsible)

I like hatchbacks...but my mom wants me to get something with 4 doors
I also love the Nissan Cube and Kia Soul

any suggestions would be great thanks

Buy used, keep it cheap, have a mechanic look at it before you buy, and remember that sometimes a beater is better.
