I have a 1997 ford falcon. This model didn't come with a dash clock although the wiring with connection plug is there to put one in aftermarket.
I bought a second-hand clock and plugged it in - not only did it not work but it seemed to short out the whole car!
I couldn't start my car and it was if the battery was dead so I quickly disconnected the clock. After doing this my car made a clicking sound like the indicators were on even though there were no keys in the ignition.
After cursing for a few minutes, the clicking had stopped so I tried to start the car again. This time it started fine and seems back to normal. The only lingering problem is my car stereo is on but makes no sound.
I'm guessing I have some dodgy wiring somewhere but I don't understand why the whole car shorted out. I assumed if something was wrong I should have only blown a fuse?
I have a new battery and have never had any issues with the car before.
Why would the whole car lose power?
