Car does not run hot, but takes excessively long to cool down?

I recently bought an '02 volvo s60 t5. Car runs at the perfect temp, idling, traffic, hot weather, you name it - the needle doesn't budge off the center line.
But - the engine takes a seemingly extra long time to cool down after use. The other day I noticed the fan still running 1 hr after turning the car off, and yesterday eve I noticed the temp gauge hadn't receded much off the operating temp 2 hours after turning the car off (let's say it was still over 2/3% of normal op temp)

The car is parked on a driveway that bakes in the sun all day and the past two days have been sunny.

Is this normal? If not - again the fan runs after turnoff so could it be the radiator's capacity to radiate is greatly diminished? Could it be that the car's very low clearance over the hot driveway is a significant factor?
