I Just wanted to know your opinions on badge snobbery. Im Indian (the asian kind) and live in the UK. As im sure some people know Indians and other Asians like showing off in their luxury German cars.
All my relatives have German cars, I.e. Mercedes, porsches, Audis, BMW's. Not a single one has anything else. They all pop on private number plates which is even worse!
My parents on the other hand have never owned a German car. We have had Fords, Vauxhalls, Toyotas, Nissans and things like that. Its not my choice but my parents. The choice is not purely for financial reasons either.
We looked into the German cars but there are many downfalls:
The rear seats dont fold (not good when doing DIY) lol
Its expensive to insure young people
Parts are expensive
You get less for more
general impracticality
They dont even seem as reliable compared to Japanese cars
Another issue is within the same size class the rear leg room is crap in German cars for 3 people.
For example a 2009 Ford Mondeo vs a 2009 Audi a4 because the a4 is full of overtop interior that protrudes the rear legroom is uncomfortable. Id much rather have a long journey in the Ford if im at the back.
Now im not jealous (even though I sound it) I really dont care, each to their own however my relatives continuously take the piss out of our cars and show off theirs to me. I got a comment the other day, what will you buy next a Skoda? with a laugh afterwards. Its as if they all gang up on us to buy a German car and belittle me.
I dont want to give in. Next time I buy a car ill buy a French one, see how they like that.
This happens every time we meet up for boaring, drunken family gatherings.
I just want to know other peoples experiences with badge snobbery?
