car alarm in 99 mercury cougar chirps randomly, even when in motion?

the factory car alarm on my 99 cougar goes off randomly. Doesn't matter if it is parked or if I am driving down the road. It isn't constant, it is more of a "beep, beep....beep" every now and then. The lights and four ways also flash when this happens. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
