I was driving down the road today when a car pulled out in front of me without looking from the turning lane into mine. I hit the brakes and tried to avoid her but ended up hitting the back right corner of her minivan. I was fine at first with adrenaline rushing from colliding with her at roughly 35 miles per hour. About 20 minutes after, about the time the responding officer showed up my back began to ache and tense up which resulted in me going to the hospital for x-rays and a checkup. I have a back strain fortunately with no long term pain, just a couple days of ache coming.
Anyways, the woman that I hit when she pulled out in front of me was using someone else;s van and couldn't provide proof of insurance or vehicle registration with out of state plates. I received no ticket but the officer kept her there and I was told I could go.
Now my question... What options do I have from today's unfortunate experience and what actions should I take? I've never been in an accident and am looking for some advice from someone who knows what to do before I look like a fool asking a lawyer about what I can and can not do.
I would like her to pay for the truck to be fixed, the front left side of my truck is destroyed and it is upsetting.
