I had a bad coolant leak due to a shot water pump. It was time for a timing belt change anyway, so I replaced both at the same time and also took the opportunity to replace the lower radiator hose. Everything was fine for about a month, then I noticed a fresh coolant leak. To be safe, I replaced all the spring clamps with screw-downs and tightened them down good. It leaks less now but still leaks. I did notice one strange thing. The cooling system always maintains a very high level of pressure. I can leave the car parked overnight and when I check on it in the morning, I hear a strong pop when I open up the coolant reservoir. The Contour has no pressure relief cap on the radiator. Could this be the problem? How do cars without a pressure relief cap relieve excess pressure?
