Can't send SMS on pearl??

I just got my pearl and when I put my sim card in and tried to send a sms it wouldn't go though (got a red X by it) but when i told someone to send me a txt it came right through... is there some settings I need to know about to send a sms? Its already t-mobile branded.....

I have unlimited txt but dont have the BB data plan yet . . . is that the reason i can't send??

You should be able to send SMS Text just fine, even without a data plan.

Try doing a battery pull reset and see if that allows the message to go through.

You won't be able to send MMS without a Data Plan. T-Mo has a BB Enabler option that will allow this, but you have to call and ask for it.

both didn't work

edit: after i battery pull reset i turned off and turned back on and worked . . . for some reason before it wasn't data connection refused like it usually do or no edge and now it does again

It's so you can determine how many previous messages are shown on the screen when you are looking at a "thread". For example, I text my daughter "Where are you?!?". She answers "With Aaron". I reply "Who the heck is Aaron?!?". This SMS thread continues for another three or four messages. My last message to her is "Come Home INSTANTLY!!!!!" Now, when I choose "Messages" from the home screen, then choose my last message, the BB shows that message and the "previous items" (the other messages in that thread), up to the number you specify.
 
i have a similar problem. i just got the pearl -- bought it used so i don't have the manual. i understand that you go to the message list, then "compose sms" - but when i do that, only "compose email" comes up.... i don't even know how to get to where i could compose an sms. help!!
