A while ago I read a really good book and was hoping to read it again. Problem is, I never look at titles/authors before I read, only after if I enjoyed the book. Well, this time my mother returned the book to the library before I could write down the title/author, and now I'm left wondering what the heck I read.
The basic story was about a girl pretending to be a male storyteller in a fantasy waterworld where people lived on interconnected bridges, and where stories were like theater performances. Also in the story was a little boy who's family lived in the slums beneath a bridge, but he was sold to a brothel-like place where people got high off your emotions after his family died. Beyond that, I don't remember much of the story.
Sound familiar to anyone? I know it was published fairly recently (as in within the last few years).
