Can't remember anything of my childhood?

I can't seem to remember anything of my dad when I was a child. He passed away when I was 9 (16 years ago) and can't for the life of me remember him all I remember of my childhood is my mom. Would there be any reason for this? My sister is 5 years younger than me and she remembers him and whenever my mom and sister talk about him, nothing they say triggers my memory.. Would there be any reason for this and does anyone know what I can do to remember my childhood? Thanks in advance
