I know it's supposed to be on the valve cover, I'm having trouble locating the oil inlet on this specific vehicle. I don't have the manual, and I can't find a manual online.

I'm adding pictures to help.

This is from the right, you can see the oil filter and the dipstick

I'm wondering if i need to move the air filter to reach it...

Here's your valve cover with the oil fill hole in it. Grab the hoses going to the hole and cap and just pull them out of the hole. You may need to twist the cap counter clockwise at the same time.

Yes remove the air cleaner to get to the valve cover, The oil fill hole will be on the valve cover somewhere and from the left side picture I can`t see it but it will be on the valve cover there somewhere.

Try removing the air cleaner assembly. You're right in that there should be a filler cap on the valve cover. (Had that 6 cylinder engine years ago in a Zephyr wagon (Mercury version of your car), but can't remember where the oil cap was. (although for some reason I keep thinking it was centered in the valve cover) If you still can't find one, or don't want to mess with removing the entire assembly, you can use a funnel and put in oil through the PCV valve opening. The PCV valve is the hose that goes into the front top of the valve cover and is just plugged into it. Pull it up and it will pop out.
