Can't Hotsync---WebproV?

I posted a message b4 about not being able to hotsync. Some suggestions were made concerning adding a new user, reinstalling software ,etc. I tried them all to no avail. In efforts to save my addresses ,etc. I pulled out the files "Add on" and the one with my name on it----deleted the Desktop software program, reinstalled the program, did a hard reset and I figure I am back to square one. When I try to install it for the "first time" it is still finding my original name (not sure how it is doing that since I deleted the program!)as well as the second user I added. Using my first name and starting the sync process, I am apparently having a problem with something called WebproV because the hotsync process stops at that time and the connection gets lost as per the hotsync log. So any idea what to try next? I guess I lost all my apps, addresses, etc. but I can always redo those. I just want to get back to the up and running state. Thanks

I've had problems from time to time with HotSync failing at a certain program or database. I use FileZ to uncheck the Backup attribute for that prog/db, save, then try another HotSync. You don't have a backup of that program or database with each HotSync from then on, but at least you should get a successful sync.

Thanks for your response--I have used FileZ but at this point, I can't get anything back into the Palm. It's been wiped clean and when I try to do the first Sync, it hangs up at WebProV and then I lose my connection. Any other ideas?

If you still have your WebPro install file, try removing the file "WebPro V" from your Backup folder on the PC. If you can then sync, reinstall WebPro from the original installation file using QuickInstall. I noticed WebPro V is 1.5 MB in size, but the WebPro installation file is nowhere near that big. (Also, the backup bit for WebPro V isn't checked in my TE.) Maybe HotSync is choking on the big file.

Thanks again for your reply. I need more specific help. Just where do I find the place to uncheck WebproV for resyncing?--I don't see it in the "custom" area. ---I did find some references to WebproV in the "Addon" folder . One was called WebPro30.prc--the other called WebproCAC. I pulled both from the folder and tried to sync--same problem persists. I really appreciate your help on this. I am not totally ignorant about puters, but I am not a whiz either, so really specific instructions on what you suggest I do would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you again. Thanks

I was referring to unchecking the "backup" attribute for WebPro V on the Palm using FileZ, but since you don't have it (or anything else) installed yet, that's out the window.

In your PC, look in your C:\Palm (or C:\Program Files\Palm) folder for a folder with your user name. Inside that folder, there's one called Backup. Look in that Backup folder for a file called WebPro V (with or without the space between "Pro" and "V"), and Cut the file from that folder and Paste it in another folder somewhere. Then try a HotSync.

If that sync works, install that WebPro30.prc file you found--it's the original installation file, so it should sync over with no problem.

Hello again---the folder you mention is where I pulled out the Webpro30.prc and the other one --the WebproCAC. I placed them on the desktop---tried the sync---same problem. I am so frustrated ! Any other ideas? THanks

OK, you've removed WebProV and the other file from your Backup folder on the PC, there's no WebProV (or anything else, for that matter) on the handheld, and HotSync Manager STILL tries (and fails) to sync WebProV? I have no idea how that would happen.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but there are some problems with the hotsync protocol management when it comes to large files (something about 64k record alignment or some such). I have seen this happen with Navarra (webpro) files, and also some other third-party files. The symptom is that the USB communication breaks down. Palm1 "fixed" that by changing the hotsync program to ignore such files (I found out all of this when I was trying to find out why pilot-link crashed on such files -- later it was too updated to ignore the same files). I think it is fixed in palm desktop version 4.1, although I have 4.1.4 installed. If you already are at that version your problem must be something different I guess.
