Cant get HDMI cable set up for my PS3

just got a nyko hdmi cable a few hours ago and i came home to hook it up and i wont work. I have a 46" Plasma Sony Bravia HDTV with HDMI support. whenever i change the display settings on my ps3 to HDMI, the screen turns blank for 30 seconds then just reverts back to the normal 480i. Any suggestions?
 
first switch it to hdmi in the PS3 menu then you have to switch the input on your tv. Im sure you have it set to like video 1 or component 1 initially but when you switch to HDMI then you must turn the TV to HDMI 1 or whatever the input is called because the signal is no longer going through the video cables but now the HDMI cable that is why the screen is blank.
 
well switch the setting to HDMI then cycle through the inputs 1-8 within 30 seconds because after 30 seconds it will switch back to what you had it once you find it it will ask do you want to keep this setting
 
Yeah, my tv specifically labeled an output for the hdmi port. I set it to that, connected the tv and PS3 with the hdmi cable and when I booted the PS3 for the first time, it said it detected an HDMI connection and asked to use it.
 
shut off the ps3 then turn it back on and hold down the power button untill it beeps then it should auto configure the ps3. Make sure its not putting it in a res that it doesnt support. Like my tv in my room only supports 1080i and it was trying to put it in p so just make sure you click in display settings the resolutions that are compatible
