Can't decide between droid and eris

I'm currently using a Samsung Omnia and am looking to change to an Android phone. I have been searching and searching and the opinions keep swapping back and forth between the DROID and the HTC Eris being the better choice. I understand that the DROID has better hardware, but the Eris has a more user friendly UI. I do prefer using the on-screen keyboard so that doesn't make a difference to me. I use my phone for mainly calls, texting, email, and web browsing. Just wanting some opinions of how either of these would compare to the speed and usability of my Omnia.
Thanks, Logan

My daughter recently got the Moto Droid thru Verizon, and it's really a full-featured phone. One nice feature is that it has both a physical and a touch-screen keyboard. Also, I can't believe how many apps she has been able to download for free. I may just have to get one myself when my NE2 comes around this coming summer. :smart:

Thanks for the comments. I got to Motorola DROID yesterday. So far i love it. At first i didn't like the keyboard, but i found it was easy to get used to. I was worried about not having facebook chat, but i downloaded meebo and now have facebook and aim in the same chat list, so thats nice. Battery life seems to be better than my omnia's was, even with me using it a lot getting used to it. But i am definitely glad that i chose this phone.

Not so obvious.

There's a thread to check out on androidforums.com titled: to check out, titled:
"Anyone switch to Eris from Droid?"

I just gave up and turned in my 3rd Droid. The reasons to get a Moto Droid are obvious and already discussed here. Here are some reasons you may have problems:

First: You don't really need the keyboard once you're used to the virtual one (and the Eris one is better). The Droid's big, heavy in the pocket. The Eris is more sleek/pocket friendly.

But for me the big issues all had to do with call quality. There are looonnngg threads on the Motorola forum as well as the Android forum that have to do with poor phone call quality, dropped calls, echos, muted calls, freezing. I've spoken with Motorola; they're well aware of the issue and apparently working on it. They also say this is a data device first and a phone second.

Sooo, if you need a good quality phone, your chances are much better with the Eris. Otherwise the Droid's screen, processor, usability is great.
