Canon XTi Flash flickering?

I bought a Canon XTi SLR with Standard lens. Occasionally under low light, It likes to flicker the flash and my clients get annoyed by it. How do I fix this setting?
Oh yeah as it flickers, I can't take a snap shot, It's like the flash flickering like a bug's wing.
