i have a cheapo slave flash for my canon rebel. there is a hot shoe but no plug for a cable to the slave flash. it has a sensor to detect the main flash. but i want to completely not use the main flash and only use the slave. but i can not find the settings or get it to work right. i got to the settings on the menu but the selection does not allow for this. so i tried to hold my hand or white card over the mail flash to stop it from lighting up the subject and still set off the slave. it then does the red eye blinking and sets off the slave then the slave can not recover in time for the main flash. i disabled the red eye but it still does the blinking. i looked for other setting on the flash menu but there is nothing that allows a slave that is not a canon. help please!
