I'm having quite a painful day today, and I wanted to say something here specifically as I normally write on the chronic pain part but this is about my back as opposed to about my pain.

My doctors refuse to send me for another CT scan, when my pain level has dramatically increased over about a week following release from detox (for the pain meRAB).

It was about five or six weeks after detox, the pain started in my lower back and was only there when I saw the neurosurgeon for the second time (and so was ineligable for surgery)...and suddenly the pain came in my mid back maybe early January.

Nothing happened the day it came, I had just been sitting. When I sit, even now, weeks later, I get the normal pain in my lower back, buttocks and legs, from the L4/L5 herniation, but I also get this burning hot pain in my mid back - and my last CT was almost 12 months ago I think.

I've had the L4/L5 rupture for 18 months, today marks the 19th month beginning. I had an L3/L4 annular disc bulge and L5/S1 as well, but there is no following CT so I feel like I don't know if they've gone back. And I am sure there's something quite wrong in the centre of my back now.

How can I get them to understand? I am currently waiting for the pain centre to give me an appointment because my GPs (I see several at the same surgery due to urgency mostly and convenience) say that the pain centre is the only place who would know whether I really need one or not!

I have a physiotherapist who costs me a lot of money so I can't afford to see him more than monthly (the hydrotherapy pool merabership costs me enough).

I can't get comfortable sitting, laying, standing, anything today. It burns.

All I know to tell you is get new doctors if the ones your talking to are not listening!....I hope you can get this resolved...I know back pain hurts and can play on your mind.:dizzy:

Good luck!

Hi fellow chronic pain sufferer!
I don't know how medicine works in Australia and if you have the freedom to chose your doctors. If so-I would start asking anyone you know for a recommendation. Everyone seems to know SOMEONE with back problems. I hope you can get the name of a better surgeon than you have now.
Ice Ice Ice. I tell everyone that I have finally learned ice works better than heat for back pain. Everything is inflammed back there right now. Can you take anti-inflammatories (OTC) till the doc can do a CT scan? My pain was so bad at night I had to get something from the doc to help me sleep too.
I am praying for you that you get someone to listen to you. Here we have a saying "the squeaky wheel gets the grease:-meaning you may have to make some noise to SOMEONE till they hear you.
Blessings,
Michelle
