Cannot Download Apps From Android Market On My LG GT 540 Optimus

Hello.

I have this problem for 2 months now. I can't download anything from the Android Market. I don't know what are people talking about when they say ''I changed to factory settings and it worked''

Can someone explain this to me? And what can I do to fix this problem?

PS. What does ''root'' a phone mean

It means they went into the settings of their phone and selected the "Factory data reset" option (or similar). On my phone it's in Menu -> Settings -> Privacy -> Factory data reset.

This basically deletes everything on your phone that's not on your SD card (all settings, etc), reverting it to the state it was in when it left the factory. Hence the name "Factory data reset". This can solve many problems because, well, it resets everything, but it's a bit of a final solution.

Did your Market used to work?

If so, are you using any task killers, have you rooted your phone and somehow disabled GTalk? If either of these are true (you'd know if they are), then that's your problem.

My gut feeling, assuming it used to work, is that it's just not signing into your GMail account properly.
