Canned fish / food safety?

Hi everyone. Yesterday morning I opened a can of smoked herring (kipper)
and ate half of it. I forgot to put it in the fridge, left it out on
the countertop, and now I'm wondering if it's still ok to eat today(?)

Thanks.

Realistically, it probably is, but sacrificing a half can of sardines
hopefully won't break you if you don't eat. I'd eat it.

He didn't think to say for how long he left it out... if only for like
a couple three hours it's probably fine but much longer I'd be wary.
Hmm, he obviously doesn't have a cat... or he not have this dilemma.
If I left a half can of kippers out five minutes later that can would
be cleaner than had it gone through the dishwasher.

Let's examine the risk vs. benefit. The risk is you die.
The benefit is you save $1 or less on a serving of food.
That's a no-brainer! Go for it!

I'd trash it just in case.

Next time consider mixing it with some sour cream and/or mayo to make a
salad. Put it in the fridge and have it on toast for lunch the next
day. Way stronger than tuna salad and very good.
