Cancelling a contract?

I currently have a year or so left under contract and I'm aware of the $200 cancellation fee, but does that price vary depending on how long I have left under contract? For instance, if I have 3 years left on contract will it still be $200? I know it seems like a stupid question, but I just want to make sure.

There's also some other options:
- Try one of those contract trade-up services like http://www.celltradeusa.com/
- This one I've heard to work. Get on the carriers website. Check their coverage map. Find an area with no coverage whatsoever. Call them up and tell them you're moving there. If they can provide service, that's a breach of contract on their side and they should let you out.

I have had a celltradeusa post for a couple weeks without any luck as well as posts on numerous forums to take over my lines.

The "move" excuse is not a valid one depending on who you speak with- even if you had to leave due to a military transfer.

It is unfortunate that one must "speak to the right person". You know?
 
I actually don't want to cancel TMO. I really like them. I'm wanting to leave Sprint- thus the one link with them changing their fees. I posted this info here since it is a general question regardless of the carrier.
 
I have always been able to get out of a sprint contract by telling them I am moving somewhere that has no coverage. They tried to change the rules with the roaming stuff but in a few areas there is no coverage...

Tmobile wants you to fax a bill, I have only had to give Sprint an address...

I have gotten a few friends out of their T-Mobile contract by telling them they're moving. Sometimes I have to still act as a dealer but it works.. so if you have trouble PM me and I can help you out.
 
Roam off of other carrier tower's for more then 50% of the time w/ your 'in plan' minutes.... No cell company will keep your contract if you are costing them more money then your paying.... They will cancel your contract after 2 mos of doing so.... no 200.00 fee...

Dont know that I would suggest this for someone in a regional or local plan...but nationwide would work...

...also, you may be able to buy yourself out of your contract.... some companies will do this... they would divide the 200.00 by the time you have left on your contract and you would pay what is would be due...

...can also do a change of responsibility with someone who would take over your contract.... this is a good idea for the current contract holder...but I wouldnt suggest it for the potential customer...they dont even get a new phone and they still have to pass credit check....
