I can't imagine what a shock that must have been on both you and your hubby. How is your hubby handling it all? I know mentally we prepare ourselves for surgery and he must have been very upset. Poor guy.

Wow! What a week. We went in wed for my husbanRAB fusion (L5-S1 Posterior) and they got him under on the OR table and he had a ingrown hair on his neck open up. They scrubbed the surgery put him on antibiotics for a week. He goes back next tues to see if it is healed enough. they would then do fusion on the 29th! Talk about an emotional roller coaster! I am ready to start the recooping process...send me some support spineys!

I think this has been harder on me than on him :( My anxiety is really getting out of whack!

I am so sorry to hear about it. You must be very upset. Like the other people have said better safe then sorry. My brother was in the hospital and got MRSA and it has been over a year and he still trying to get rid of it. Take care they are looking out for your hubby. I know wanting to have it to get it bebind you both is what you want. I fell for both of you. Prayers for your family. Deb

Oh my! I've never heard of that before! That must have been so hard, to be waiting and have him already in the OR and all set to go, only to hear that the brakes were put on it. It's hard enough when you get rescheduled the day before, but to already be under.... How is your husband handling it? What a surprise that must have been for him when he woke up. He must have woken up thinking, wow, this surgery was great, I don't even hurt! He'll know the difference next time! :)

Hang in there, Ginger. There may be a reason none of us will ever know why it got delayed. These are the times that build character in us, and the times that bring out our true nature. (My husband would say that, yeah, I'm a character, all right!) Maybe you can take advantage of the delay by taking hubby out for something special this week, something that will be a nice memory for both of you. And hopefully, this week will fly past and he'll be on the other side of surgery before you know it. One more week. Try to stay busy. If you have questions or just need to let off some steam, pop in here.

I hope there are no glitches next week. Let us know...

Ginger I just want you to know that I am thinking and praying for both you and your husband and hopefully the surgery will be over with on the 29th and he will be on the road to recovery. I ended up with an infection on the first part of my surgery which caused a delay of 3 weeks to finish. I know how nerve racking it can be but you sure want everything to be good because those infections can be so bad.

Take care.

What a disappointment for you both. I can't imagine being told that my surgery was cancelled so late in the game because of an ingrown hair..BUT, what a good Dr. He is watching out for your husband..the consequences of an aquired infection could be truely awful..so the Dr. does have your husband's best interest at the forefront. Good luck to him (and you) when the surgery does take place. The suggestion of doing something nice for both of you is a great idea!!

Thanks for the well wishes. I think you are right. staying busy is the secret. I'll post after surgery with an update.

Nutinmch,

I have almost been where you are at with your husband. My daughter had fusion almost three years ago at the age of 15. Well teenage girls do have acne which she was under the care of a dermatologist for. After many dr. visits discussing her surgery her pediatric ortho, he never voiced any concern about her acne which at times does break out on her back. Well about three weeks prior to surgery I was discussing another issue on the phone and somehow the issue of acne came up. He told me that if she had any pimples near her incision sight that he would have to cancel the surgery. Wow! I was in shock. He told me the back had to be cleared up.

Well like you, I was amazed. We went to the dermatologist the next day and he started her on a couple different oral meRAB and topical ointments to clear up her back with weekly appts to monitor it. Her back dr is very friendly and cordial. So the morning of surgery he comes in and shakes our hanRAB and immediately checks her back to make sure it is clear enough to operate on. Luckily for us it was.

I do know that I was a mess mentally waiting for her surgery so can't imagine getting to that point and having to start over. It was explained to me by another dr that the spine is a very vulnerable area and that if she was opened up with any kind of pimple with puss we could be looking at serious infection.

So I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. I wish the best to the two of you and hope your husband is healed enough on the 29th. Good luck! cas

I am sure that was a whirlwind, but you have to give props to the doctor in not wanting to perform the surgery with any possibility that a serious infection could occur, such as MRSA. OH my! That you would not want.

So, whatever time it takes to make sure he's in the best possible physical condition to have the surgery.. the better.

Hang in there!

Yes thinking of you both....having to wait all over again must not have be easy..I believe today was the day...Hoping all went well and on schedule.

In a few weeks you will be happy it's all behind you.

You are in our prayers....
