canceling verizon data plan?

I have a verizon family we up graded all but one of the phones which was a flip phone. I recently lost my phone which was a samsung rogue on a required data plan. I was going to use the upgrade on the flip phone to get a droid eris which also requires a data plan. I was wondering if I switched the flip phone to my number if I could remove the data plan
