Canadian/U.S. debate cards in the Carribean?

Can U.S./ Canadian bank debate cards be used in the Carribean? I ask because I'm going to Jamaica in July to see my dad and will be needing some extra money that what wont be deposited in my account until after I leave home. So with all of my ID and card could I get a hold of my funds from a local bank teller or bank machine while in the island?
