I’ve been thinking for so long about how I can combine my artistic ideas into something that I can share with people. And I think I might have found it!! But I need help. I’m hoping someone can give me info!
While in high school, I had so many types of drawings and paintings of anything I could think of... rangeing from artsy to girly to tomboyish to just plain weird. I was kind of scared to show them to people until I built up the courage to have someone look at my work, he liked it!! I felt like I wanted to do more with it and started to notice that lots of people liked my art. Now I think I’ve found a way to let people “have” my art and keep it.
I’ve decided to make a line of t-shirts (and maybe Hoddles, tanks etc...) with some of my art on it. I’ve come up with a name and my target audience (kind of =/) I’ve been doing my research and found other people who have started their own tee companies from home and I’m learning more each day. I know that I have to make connections with suppliers, advertise, have some money to spend on things to get myself off the ground and if it does go anywhere to get a lawyer and legal things involved BUT I need way more info if I want to go anywhere with this.
So here are my questions that I’m hoping someone out there can help me with.
-I have some ideas involving Disney characters. I was wondering if that could get me into legal problems, what I mean is, let’s say I have a drawing that I put onto a tee of a Disney princess, will I end up getting in trouble with Disney?? ( I have seen characters on tees from companies that don’t have anything to do with Disney so I wonder how they do it)
-I come from Trinidad so I included some of my culture into my drawings and I’m not sure if this will also be a problem for me to use?
-I have 2 brand new white tees and I’m wondering if I should pic 2 of my best designs and make 2 prototypes for myself and wear them out to see what anyone I come into contact with will think about them..
-I’ve heard of things like cafe press and I want to know if someone will steal my idea through that? Or if it’s not the best way for me to go and just do something independently like blogs and face book. YouTube pages?
-I live in BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA so does anyone know where or who I should contact to get legal things (like trademarks, LLC’s, etc...)? I need LOTS of this kind of info
-I’ve heard of people like attitude t shirts, and eclipse clothing and how they did it and I’m thinking of following some of the same steps.
-I know I’m going to need to buy a t-shirt transfer machine (ink press) and transfer paper and (if people like my idea and want more) employers... I need to know where to get these things from... craigslist maybe?? Or maybe an actual store that sells these things?
-I’ve been to Michael’s to pick up some basic things to help me with my prototypes ( and ones that ill make to give out for free)... so far I have fabric paints, transfer papers ( I’m willing to use Photoshop to help me). Some art knives and other things to make homemade tees from scratch... is this a good place to start off???

I know I’m forgetting some major questions and knowledge so that’s why I’m here asking. Does anyone have any more info or anything extra to add? I would really appreciate any information anyone can give me so I can get this dream going! I think I’ve finally found something I could be good at and love!! Thanks so much – Kareena.
