Canadian Property Law: Can an Animal be the benficiary of a will?

I'm trying to find something solid in Canadian law that I can use to prove to a client they are not allowed to make their pet the beneficiary of their will.

I know they need to use a trust and make the pet the benefactor of the trust, but I need legal PROOF in canadian law. It has to be solid proof, the likes of which could be used in court.

PLEASE HELP!!!
