Canada>Toronto: Reommended Smartphone w/ full Qwerty?

My wife and I are looking to make the leap from Koodo to the provider with the best smart phones for our uses.

What we're looking for:

- Full QWERTY
- OS: Undecided, but Android seems the way to go?

I want a multimedia powerhouse (as is available) that's functional for surfing, apps, music/video (Ipod replacement), and light text composition (i.e. notes).

My wife's desires may be slightly more practical (solid construction/aesthetics, decent camera, heavy texting).

Everything else is up in the air. We've looked at the HTC Dezire Z. She also likes the LG Shine Plus.

Bonus for providers with family plans/shared data, but as long as we can get a reasonable plan we're happy.

Any other model recommendations? Is there anything just around the corner to be holding out for?

Thanks!

I have the shine plus and have no real problems with it other than having to root it to get wifi tethering with barnacle. Otherwise I have to use usb tethering with a paid app (for secure sites). I am envying the higher end devices though after living with this one for over 6 months.

I don't like bell but my first choice for a qwerty android phone would be the desire z. If I was to stick with telus I would get the tmobile g2 and unlock it since its the same phone but with stock android. The keyboard on the desire z and g2 sucks compared to the shine plus but other than that its a better phone in almost every way.

The shine plus might be a bit more durable though having gorilla glass and no hinge mechanism that could give trouble.

Forgot to mention I used the camera heavily in cuba on vacation and have to say it is awesome in bright sun. My beach pictures turned out so good people couldn't believe I took them on my phone. If your wife is not so picky about phones as you it might be the one for her. So far it seems like it would last a few years.
