Can your body get used to anxiety?

Sometimes when I am in a full blown panic attack, my mind is racing and I'm freaking out, but my heart and my body seem to be perfectly fine and actually my heart will sometimes beat only 60-70 bpm when I'm anxious. Do you think that your body can actually get so used to you being anxious that it quits reacting to it as much?

actually the opposite is true. With issues such as PTSD the body has so much stress for such long times that it eventually doesn't turn off. Hormones are released when we get stressed and when it's severe we have "fight or flight". Little everyday stressors are ok and actually help us learn. But the long term stress...hours at a time...actually interfere with your body's ability to get back in to "rest and digest" mode. The "off" switch is actually damaged by too much stress and thus can not turn off...keeping your body is a state of hyper vigilance all the time.

I think the fact that your body isn't reacting to your mind is great...hopefully you the mental part will come.

I'm the opposite. In the past, I was having what I thought were panic attacks, but I'm not sure now. But my mind was fairly calm/normal, and yet my body was shaking, jerking, shivering, heart beating really fast, muscles uncontrollably tensing. Very strange.

After a few trips to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack and finally recognizing panic attacks I haven't had one in many years.

However, I still suffer from transitory anxiety for >20 years now.
