can you use normal candle wax for batik?

i missed a deadline for my art course work so i have to do this batik by myself asap, can i use normal candle wax? after waxing over the parts i want to keep white, i will be dying it yellow, then waxing over the bits i want yellow, then dying it red, etc.
will candle wax do the job?
if not, what will?
