can you use a u.s. cellular phone on cricket service without flashing it?

people have told me(even the lady at the cricket store) said that u.s. cellular and cricket are the same but u.s. cellular is in places that cricket doesn't have service. i have a u.s. cellular phone i want to use on cricket, does it have to be flashed to cricket?
 
Certainly you have to flashed it with Cricket,so your phone will has a number and then Cricket network will recognize the phone. Its like when you need to insert a SIMCARD in on GSM phone.Since Cricket does not use SIMCARD then,they need to flash it.
