Can you transfer strep throat to an open wound on your hand like a cut?

Just wondering if you have strep throat if its possible to transfer that bacteria to an open would like a cut on your finger if you put your finger in your mouth. I was watching 1000 ways to die the other day and a woman died from cutting herself with a rusty razor that had strep on it. The infection spread and she didnt get treated and she died.
Is it possible to transfer it from the throat to somewhere else in the body??? Just wondering....or is that different from directly getting it from a rusty razor?
