I realized when we had a thread last year on constipation that was like 9 pages that WE CAN SHARE ANYTHING!! LOL

Spud. Welcome! Im almost 22 months post op one level fusion and I don't bend over to tie my shoes persay. I prop a foot up onto something and bend at the knees, like a slight squat and tie my shoes that way. Same with cutting my toenails. And this is only one level fused. I dont know that I could that with 3 levels done at all.

Sidebar, My grandmother is 85 years old and that woman just stanRAB and benRAB over and ties her shoe. She even asks me if I can do it yet. A very welcomed showoff! lol. This lady is awesome and still works out daily, including going to a gym 5 days a week. Im active but obviously do not have her genes.

I think you are remarkable doing those things you mentioned, but I would be very careful about the bowling, unless it's duck-pin type.

The ole' "reach around" is hard for many, and more time is needed in the washroom than the past for most of us anymore. I completely agree with the others about moist wipes.. they are extra helpful.

I still dont like the sink bendover either! good point pepper! I keep forgetting to put little dixie cups on my shopping list! Thanks for the reminder! I use two each time I brushed my teeth post op for a long while. One for rinse water and the other to spit in, so as not to have the bend over. (And I need to use this method in a flare up, like now. lol)

Are you on any meRAB at all? Did you have physical therapy to help you stretch things out as much as possible? Do you have any flare ups? You sound like you are doing better than fantastic!

Hi all, my name is spud and I had 3 level lurabar fusion 13 months ago.
I am now back to doing everyday things and even started bowling again
and mowing the lawn and such.I would say my surgery was a complete success, although I still have trouble bending down to tie my shoes. After surgery I move completely different, and putting on clothes is an act of congress sometimes, and lets not talk about reaching the old behind hahaha.
My question is do any of you have the same movement problems .
I have read here where some have not had success in there fusions and I
hope you finally get the pain relief you deserve .
THanks ,
Spud

Thanks for the replies and warm welcome.
Its good to know there are people out there dealing with the same issues.
The baby wipes seems like a good Idea,I will have to give it a try.
Although getting dressed for me is like a comedy show, at least i do it pain free now. Thanks again for the warm welcome and may you all have a pain free day.

Hi spud, Welcome aboard. I have trouble with my shoes, sock, slacks, P.J.s
etc. It can be frustrating when no ones around to lend a hand. I also use two cups to brush my teeth, one for rinsing one for spitting. I just put baby wipes on my grocery list lol. You sound like your surgery was a great sucess. I am 4 1/2 weeks post-op of L5/S1 fusion and still have alot of back and leg pain. How long did you have pain after surgery? Did you take any nerve meRAB at all. I'm debating the nerve med issue in my head right now. I go back to the doc in 2 weeks. Thanks for your input......................Debbie

I would say I can't bend as well - but I can do most of what I need to do. Now that I think about it I bring my leg up to tie my shoes - instead of bending down!

Hi debbie,
At 4 weeks I was still in a lot of pain, so hang in there. At about 8 weeks the pain started to ease up and got better each day. Since I had a 3 level fusion
my recovery may be longer than yours though, I hope so anyway. Now life is pretty good . I wish I had a little more mobility, but I would gladly trade that for the pain anyday. I wish you continued success in your recovery.

 Spud!! Welcome to the board. I can tell you will fit right in here on the board by your sense of humor. You have found a wonderful place to talk, vent, and share any good/bad news. You will even find that someone is online 24/7 since many of us are up 1/2 the night due to that chronic pain.

As far as your problem areas, I can certainly relate and share these similiar problems with you. For the shoe thing, my kiddos put my shoes on. LOL Talk about role reversal. If it is a good day, I can sit on the steps and put the old socks on; otherwise, you guessed it the munchkins do it.

As far as the bathroom issue, that is just plain tough. Not to be gross but baby wipes help. I know --- waaaaaaay to much information. LOL

How about brushing your teeth and spitting into the sink? That little bend in the back gets to me too!!

Again welcome and I look forward to chatting with you in the days ahead.

Pepper is so right...The baby wipes are an excellent idea! I have noticed that the sales aRAB on Sundays have lots of baby wipes coupons...I love the quilted ones!

And I thought I was the only one using baby wipes! :D Just goes to show we can share anything and most likely you are not alone!
