Can you tether with any blackberry?

I just found out about the whole "tethering" concept. I am looking to upgrade to a new phone, like a Blackberry, and I was told that AT&T is the only company that allows tethering (for $15 a month). Can you tether with any blackberry, or just the ones that AT&T provides? If you can, how is it done? Is there a website or some equipment/software I have to acquire?
