Can you switch iPad data plans from att to verizon and keep the same device?

I have an AT&T powered iPad. I was considering to switch to verizon data plans, but I don't want to pay the price of an entirely new iPad. So, if i were to switch plans, can I keep my same iPad? Please help!!!!!
