...dog being at Large? For the past two years, two neighborhood dogs has been loose several times. They come to my house to see my two dogs in my dogs kennel. These two dogs dig from the outside of the fence and crawl in and out and they tear up the bottom of the fence. For the past two years, they have really done some damage to my fence/kennel. I have taken these dogs to the local shelter 5 or 6 times. A friend who volunteers at the Animal Humane Society has taken them at least 3 or 4 times. All different incidents. I have had the police down a couple of times to see the damage and to log the incidents. I have went to the police dept to log incidents as well. I have taken pictures of the dogs in my yard and also of the damaged kennel. I have spent money on parts to repair the fence as well. After all of these times, you would think the shelter wouldn't let the owners have the dogs back, but I think there is something fishy going on. I have been told that I should sue the owners of the dogs for a new kennel and parts to repair. I live in Illinois and it is illegal in my city for dogs to be running at large. Do you think I have a legal legitimate case?
I have caught the dogs stuck inside the kennel a few times, so I know for a fact it is not my dogs causing the problem. The only time my dogs get loose is when those dogs are at my house.
