me and my co-workers work for gap inc... we were having a discussion today that a manager can just fire you for no reason, like you know we are moving in a different direction kind of thing but we really dont have a reason. do you think in this day and age its that easy to fire people, it used to be a long time ago, but im not sure about modern day. what do you think?
ya but what about lawsuits??

Unless you have the protection of an employment contract (i.e., union), you may be fired for any reason or no reason, except for specifically unlawful reasons.

You may not be fired for your gender or race or religion, for instance. But your employer may fire you because you remind him of his lazy nephew, or he hates left-handed people, or he just felt like firing you.

Unless you have a contract (individually or through a labor union), you can be fired for any reason whatsoever, with the sole exception of civil rights issues like race and religion.
