i got school in san francisco, but i commute through bart from the east bay & was hoping if i can ride my bicycle on the sidewalks because riding it on the streets seem much more dangerous. does san francisco require helmets for cyclists?

No, you can't ride on the sidewalk in SF. SF's sidewalks are busy with their rightful users, pedestrians. Besides, it's illegal. You'll either need to get comfortable with riding the roads or bike lanes, or you can walk the sidewalks.

Helmets are required for all cyclists under the age of 18 in CA when riding on public streets and paths.
