Can you purchase a new T-mobile phone without a contract upgrade?

My phone has a charging problem and something happened with the connection.. I already replaced it once right after it broke for the first time about a year ago, but now the newer phone is also broken and the warranty is up. Can I get a new phone without renewing my contract? I'm not due for another one until November
