Can you paint over wallpaper?

I want to paint my twins bedroom a pale yellow but there is already this ugly wallpaper up. I saw on tv a while ago that these people painted right over it. Will this work?

If the wallpaper is not textured it can be a temporary fix..However, if the wallpaper was not placed on the walls correctly and eventually begins to peel this could be a problem. Also, if you run your hand across the seems of the wallpaper and feel where one piece begins and the other ends, you will also be able to see this after you paint and could cause the new paint job to look not so up to par! LOL Good luck!

It will but its not recommended. You'd be much better off stripping the wallpaper and sanding down the walls before painting, otherwise as the wallpaper ages and peels it will ruin the paint. You'd also see the wallpaper seams and texture through the paint.

I would not paint over the wall paper, I would be afraid that you go through and do all this hard work and then the wallpaper shows through.. Or what if the wallpaper eventually starts to curl in the corners they your paint job would be to.. I would just peel it off..It is frustrating but it will be well worth it in the long run..
