Can you leave a magnetic algae cleaner in your fish tank permantently and

use when needed? I have a megnetic algae cleaner. I want to know if its ok to just leave it in the tank and use when needed (of course, cleaning every month or so), or if this is somehow harmful for the fish or the tank.

Also, if anyone has any tips on using one I could use those too since I've never done so.
