of a dual voice coil speaker? I have a Kicker L5 12" sub with a Sony xplod 1200 watt amp. The DVC speaker is currently wired to run at 2 ohms, and the amp is bridged running to it. It sounds great and goes very loud, problem is after about 10 mins of running at high volume the amp overheats and shuts down (or if I crank it way up the protection kicks in and shuts it down). I didn't want to wire the sub to 8 ohms and lose sound, but I need to figure out a way to solve the overheating issue. I know Sony amps aren't the greatest, but it is rated 2 ohm stable and is more powerful than my previous Punch 200, is it possible to wire each side of the amp (and run it stereo) to each of the dual voice coils on the speaker to get more efficiency from the amp? Any other ideas besides a new amp? I still have the punch 200, and an old school Urban 500 watt, the punch was more reliable, just not quite as loud.
I wasn't sure if some music put out different levels or freqs of bass from left to right and how that might effect the sub. Say a heavy note hits only on the left side is that going to damage the speaker?
