Can you help with my starting problem in Dodge Durango?

My 2002 Durango has a starting problem that is intermittent. Sometimes it starts right up, but most times it has to crank a little before it catches. Of course when I take it to the mechanic it starts right up. I don't want to replace the starter if I don't need to - expensive! Any suggestions?
 
in 2002 dodge changed both the crank reluctor wheel, and the cam reluctor wheel, to help with slow starting problems brought on with low battery voltage.
