My boyfriend has a wonderful Cairn Terrier, but we are wanting to get a puppy together. We want a purebred dog. I've never owned a dog before, but my boyfriend is a dog genius. lol We don't want any big mean dogs like Pit Bulls though. My boyfriend and I live on a ranch and there is a large yard for the dogs. My boyfriend has a 5 year old son, so the dog must be good with kids. We are looking for a large breed. Shedding doesn't bother us at all and none of us are allergic to dogs. I can groom the dog once a month, but have very little time for exercising the dog. It needs to be low energy! A dog that alerts us to any strange noise or person would be a big plus! But, that isn't a necessity. If the dog is a high energy dog I can always hire a dog walker during the day. My boyfriend and I are currently looking at the Ainu Dog, Australian Labradoodle, Basset Bleu de Gascogne, Basset Hound, and Beagle Harrier. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Can you help my boyfriend and I choose a dog breed?
