Optimism Speech!
Optimism! If you go look it up in a dictionary or even Google you will maybe see it is the tendency to look on the bright side, but wait is that the real meaning? Is it? You know I am just like you who did this project but when I was doing this project, I thought why are we doing this project? Why? Yes, it is for a grade but is that all? No, everyone in this classroom will have different reasons and answers but to me before I did this speech I saw the world so tragic and so boring but after writing the speech with some thought I saw that there is a whole world that some people have not even experienced in their lives or even thought about it. In the horrible time in some places where there is no food to find and some people are pleased with what they have. While a rich family has so much food there can be and they are as sad as anyone can be. Yes, we are in bad times right now and we must be happy with what we have. Rabindranath Tagore once said, “I have become my own version of an optimist. If I cannot make it through one door, I will go through another door or I will go through another door or I will make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present.” This quote means a lot in two sentences. He is saying that no matter how bad the times are he will find work for living anytime. Optimism is really a way that has helped all long. I mean to me optimism really means love, support, experiences, and faith that I know were one of my main keys that really helped me.
I got love and support from my family through good times and bad times of my 12 year of life. Experiences that I have experienced during my life helped me a lot. Like maybe when I was on a going to my friend’s house and it started raining and I forgot my umbrella. Biggest mistake and I will never forget that time. Now, Faith to me is a lot of things, but in a fast vague form it is mainly religion and of course faith in my self. With faith in yourself, you can reach anything you want. Helen Keller, who was deaf and blind at birth, was a great successor in life. She was and is the idol of every blind or deaf people. Everyone thought that she would not succeed in her life but with faith and support she had, Helen Keller gave famous speeches in sign language and someone would translate it. She once had said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” love, faith, experiences and joy mean optimism to me but that does not mean you feel the same way. Families are worried about the recession but it’s not really something to worry about for people who work hard for their living. If you actually didn’t spend all of your money during the good times, then you are in shipshape.
Did you know that mounting research shows and continues to show that optimism could extend people's life? The latest study came from a university in Netherlands. For 999 elderly Dutch men and women, agreement with statement such as “I still have many goals to strive for" was highly predictive for longevity. When the subjects were traced 9 years after being surveyed, considering all other factors in life, death rates of optimistic men were 63% lower than those of their not-so-optimistic-peers; for women, optimism reduced rate by 35%. The reason? Optimistic people avoided many un-healthy life choices. As you might not know, optimistic teens have greater motivation, resilience, moods that are more positive, higher achievement and a greater sense of control. Maybe that is the secret weapon for the smart kids. Therefore, exercising is not the only way to live longer! Don’t you want to live longer while doing nothing? Because I would love to do that. What I am trying to address to you is that optimism is easy way to achieve your dreams. As I have mentioned before, faith and support led Helen Keller to success and experiences are, helping me succeed in life.
