So I know very, VERY, little about mountain bikes. I am looking to buy a new one so I can ride the trails behind my college. I do know that my last bike had front and rear suspension so I am wanting that on my next one. Can anyone give me any tips or anything about what I should look for in a quality mountain bike without overpaying???

Learn about bike components and frames. Look for an aluminum frame and a good suspension fork. I would advise you to not use rear suspension because: 1. You only need it if you're going over very rough terrain/jumps. 2. You would need to go into 1000's for a good double suspension bike. 3. Its heavier and not as efficient when you pedal.
Make sure if you're going with rear suspension that it's good (i would advise air valves. Springs are heavy but can take more punishment). Also brakes are important: you can get disc brakes...there are two types: Mechanic and Hydraulic. The hydraulics are expensive but they're very smooth. Mechanics are smoother than the rim brakes, and (i think) do a great job.
Look at lots of reviews on parts and bikes to see exactly what you're buying.

Full suspension bikes for you is familiar territory---so its a question of what mountain bike you PREFER. I'd recommend the TREK Fuel EX8, or the bikes at Cambriabike.com, some Kona bikes at Wheelworld.com ---all the bikes there are well-specced and with awesome features. Test drive them when you have time.
