I have always had cold sores...since I can remember. But I also just got diagnosed with Genital HSV1. But that's where I am confused. I thought if you had it orally you have antibodies that protect you from also getting it genitally?
Also, if this is the case, wouldn't the initial outbreak not be too bad? I had my first genital HSV 1 OB last week and I could barely walk. I had full blown symptoms, primary and secondary. I was even given ocxycocets to manage the pain....
Now, is it possible that my cold sores have always been HSV 2? But considering I have had them since I can remember I have no idea where I would've gotten that...
Also, what are the transmission risks with genital HSV 1? I know that there is always a risk and I am responsible so I won't be sleeping around or anything. But if I find a partner who has never had a cold sore does this mean he could get it from me both orally and genitally? And if he does have cold sores, can he still get it genitally like I did?
