can you go to jail for using a torrent?and can they catch u? i downloaded one once

and im worried!? can they catch you is it agenst the law? please give me all the info you can!
i dident know it was illegal ok how was i suppost 2 know im only 15 and it dident say it was one of us says it is one of u say it isnt i need more answers..
also can you get sued as well.....?
